The CFL Crossover rule states that:
"If the fourth place team in Division A has more points than the third place team in Division B, the fourth place team in Division A will make the playoffs and the third place team in Division B will not."
What this means is that an Eastern Conference team could play in the Western Conference bracket of the playoffs, or vice versa. This happened as recently as 2005 when Saskatchewan, a Western Conference team, played in the Eastern Conference side of the playoffs.
